Most centres put a huge emphases on preparing your child for school, however we at The Montessori Preschool of Sydney believe in preparing your child for life – there is a bigger picture.
Maria Montessori taught us the importance of the very valuable trait called Observation. Montessori Directors (Teachers) have refined the skill of observation during their intensive training which allows our children to have a Montessori Programme created just for them where they can each learn at their own pace and in their own way.
You may think, “But when they go to school, they will have to learn in a traditional way?”, to which we reply – by the time they are going to school, children have already created their intellectual foundation. They have already created an orderly mind, they have refined their fine motor skills as well as their gross motor skills. They have become independent thinkers, they have confidence, perseverance, they enjoy independence and are happy to learn. Their minds now think in a way that helps them to understand abstract concepts – which is how they are taught in a traditional school. By this stage children will be able to hold scissors correctly, hold pencils correctly, recognise and understand numbers, recognise sounds and letters. Some may even be able to read and write depending on their inner tendencies. Once this foundation is set, it cannot be undone! If you truly understand something, you will never forget it!
